Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals registered a marker in each period to defeat the Kelowna Rockets 3-2 in Game 2 on Saturday night and now hold a 2-0 series lead in Round 2 of the 2016 WHL Playoffs.
In a tight checking affair, the Royals’ Alex Forsberg scored the game winner in the third period. Victoria’s Jack Walker opened the scoring for the home team in the first frame before Regan Nagy tallied early in the middle stanza. The Rockets’ two goals were registered by Tyson Baillie and Justin Kirkland in the second and third periods respectively.
Victoria netminder Coleman Vollrath turned aside 26 of the 28 shots fired his way. With the victory, Vollrath set the new franchise record for most post-season wins with eight. The previous record was held by alumni Patrik Polivka.
Kelowna’s goaltender Michael Herringer stopped 23 of the 26 shots he faced.
The Royals posted a 2/4=50.0% mark on the powerplay while the Rockets went 1/4=25.0% with the man-advantage.
Game 3 and 4 of the best-of-seven series between Victoria and Kelowna is slated for Tuesday, April 12th and Thursday, April 14th in Kelowna with puck drop at 7:05 p.m. for both contests.
